Hon. Minister of Tourism Development, Christian Religious Affairs and Lands, John Amaratunga

Former Deputy Mayor of Colombo, Mr. Titus Perera, and distinguished members of the Head table and our Friends from the Media.

On behalf of the Sri Lanka Retailers’ Association and its Chairman, Hussain Sadique, I take this opportunity to thank the Hon. Minister, the brainchild of the Colombo Christmas Street at Greenpath and endorsing Retailers’ Association to partner this event and Mr. Dinesh Weerakkody, Advisor to the Ministry of National Economic Policies & Affairs for his inspiring leadership and guidance towards successful completion of the event.

Mr. Ruwan Senanayake project Chairman CCS, Mr. Mihira De Alwis Director Lands Ministry, Former Deputy Mayor Mr. Titus Perera and Ms. Dhammika Dharmarathne of the Colombo Municipal Council.

Wish to mention Our CCS Committee members, Ms. Annika Senanayake (IWS Group) , Mr. Mahesh Dharmadasa (Nawaloka group) , Mr. Mehraj Sally (MyDeal.lk) and Kavinda Makalanda for their teamwork and dedication and supporting SLRA to make this event a success.

SLRA also say a Big Thank you to our Associate partner Sri Lanka Apparel Brands Association and its President, Mr. Indradatte Dharmawardene for the participation and the co-sponsorship of the event.

It is notable to mention that we had a footfall of over I million of Local and Tourist visitors during the 3 days to the Colombo Christmas Street which comprised of Trade, Food stalls of local and foreign brands

for Shopping and Choirs, Bands, Circus and Dancers in the true Christmas spirit for entertainment and enjoying.

The success of this event CCS will be a stepping stone to launch the ‘Sri Lankan Shopping Festival’ in line with similar festivals in countries like Dubai, Singapore, Germany  to promote Sri Lanka Tourism and Sri Lanka as a prime Retail Shopping destination.

Towards this cause the Government has allocated Rs 50 Mn and it will be worked out as a Public-Private partnership led by the Ministry of Tourism, Tourism promotion Bureau, State agencies jointly with the Private sector in which Sri Lanka Retailers’ Association will be a driving force in this endeavor..

Finally, let me thank all the Sponsors, Stall holders, participants and more importantly the General public, Shoppers and Visitors who patronized to make this first ever Colombo Christmas Street a great success.  And wish to mention that it will be continuing ‘National Event’ in future.
